ATLAS 5 ROCKET TO LAUNCH NEW GPS SATELLITE TODAY

The countdown is underway for today's launch of an Atlas 5 rocket to deploy a replacement satellite to strengthen the Global Positioning System for U.S. military forces and the worldwide economy. Liftoff from Cape Canaveral is scheduled for 5:38 p.m. EDT (2138 GMT).

PROTON ROCKET LIFTS OFF WITH EUTELSAT BROADCAST SATELLITE

Russia's Proton rocket blasted off Tuesday with a satellite for Eutelsat to beam video, data and broadband programming to Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Liftoff from the Baikonur Cosmodrome occurred at 1602 GMT (12:02 p.m. EDT), and the rocket's Breeze M upper stage maneuvered the 12,059-pound satellite into geosynchronous transfer orbit 9 hours later.
